It comes as no surprise that beautiful Bamburgh has been voted The Best Seaside Destination in the UK for the fourth year running in the annual Which? Survey.
The staggering coastal village, where Bamburgh Castle towers over a pristine beach and drifting sand dunes, has come out top again over Portmeirion in Wales which secured second place. Also championing the region, Tynemouth made it into fourth place.
The survey looks at a range of criteria, with over 4,700 people taking part, including quality of the beaches; food and drink on offer; tourist attractions and value for money. Referencing Bamburgh’s ‘wild’ and ‘beautiful’ beach and Bamburgh Castle, Which? revealed that visitors had been awed by the 'magnificent' and 'totally unspoiled' beach as well as the 'dramatic' views of the castle.
From attractions such as amazing Bamburgh Castle to smaller, lesser-known RNLI Grace Darling Museum, food and drink from fantastic seafood at The Potted Lobster to locally-sourced beach snacks from Bait at Beadnell, and of course staggering views and the Northumberland Coast Path on the doorstep, it is no wonder that Bamburgh is voted the top seaside destination time and time again.
Andrew Fox, chair of Visit Northumberland, said: “It means so much to Bamburgh, and to the county as a whole, to be repeatedly voted the best seaside town and the vote is a testament to the beauty of the village and the fantastic accommodation, food and drink and other businesses based there. It raises the profile of not only Bamburgh but Northumberland too, which further aids the visitor economy here in the county.”
Councillor Jeff Watson, Cabinet Member for Healthy Lives said: "We are thrilled and immensely proud that Bamburgh has been named the best seaside destination for the fourth year in a row.
“This recognition is a testament to our hardworking tourism sector, and we are excited to continue sharing our stunning beaches, historic landmarks, and warm hospitality with visitors from all over the world.”
Councillor Guy Renner-Thompson Cabinet Member and the County Councillor for Bamburgh added: “Year after year Bamburgh is being recognised for its unique charm. This accolade reflects our community’s hard work in maintaining its pristine beauty and vibrant heritage.
“We look forward to welcoming visitors from near and far to experience everything Bamburgh has to offer."
Rory Boland, editor of Which? Travel, said: “From wild, unspoilt stretches of remote coastline to charming traditional bucket and spade resorts, the UK’s seaside towns offer something for everyone. While you may have your own favourite coastal spot, this year’s survey shows that it’s worth looking beyond the most famous resorts this summer, to the lesser-visited hidden gems in every corner of the UK.”
