Dance artists and companies working in Northumberland are being invited to apply for a new round of funding to support creative projects across the county.
The Northumberland Dance Development Fund Open Call is now open, offering micro-grants of up to £3,000 to support the development of dance activity between July 2026 and March 2027.
Delivered in partnership by The Maltings (Berwick) Trust, Alnwick Playhouse and Queen’s Hall Arts Centre, Hexham, the fund aims to strengthen dance provision across Northumberland - particularly in rural communities - by supporting both emerging and established artists to develop new work and engage local audiences.
The fund is open to individual artists, companies and practitioners based in the North of Tyne region, as well as those with strong creative links to Northumberland. Projects can take a range of forms, including residencies, workshops, classes or work-in-progress development, with a strong emphasis on community involvement and participation.
Successful applicants will be supported to deliver projects that respond to local contexts, build connections with communities and contribute to a wider network of learning and development within the dance sector.
Councillor Wendy Pattison, Cabinet Member responsible for culture with Northumberland County Council said: "We have a long and proud cultural tradition here in Northumberland and this is a fantastic chance for both new and established artists to showcase their work. There's a real range of projects which can qualify for funding, and we'd encourage anyone interested to get involved and submit an application."
Lucy Vaughan, Head of Creative Engagement at The Maltings (Berwick) Trust said: “We administer the Dance Development Fund on behalf of Northumberland County Council and in partnership with Queens' Hall and Alnwick Playhouse to create opportunities for artists to develop. The fund is about creating real opportunities for artists to develop their practice while connecting with communities across Northumberland. We’re particularly interested in projects that bring people together, reach new audiences and reflect the unique character of rural places. Dance can play a powerful role in building confidence, creativity and connection, and we’re excited to support artists to explore that through this programme.”
Applications are now open, with a closing date of Monday 18 May 2026 at 5pm. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to interview in early June.
