December 2025 – The Wildhive Collection, the boutique hospitality brand deeply rooted in nature, has announced further plans for its second property, Wildhive Eshott Hall in Northumberland. Set to open in Summer 2026, the historic Georgian manor near the hamlet of Eshott, will become the group’s second site, following the award winning Wildhive Callow Hall in rural Derbyshire, which opened in September 2021.
In line with Wildhive’s signature experiential accommodation, plans are for Wildhive Eshott Hall to include a collection of 14 one-bedroom and 1 two-bedroom woodman cabins, each with its own private deck, hidden outdoor bath, and swinging seat – reflecting Wildhive’s ethos of keeping nature at its core. The former stables will be converted into six guest rooms, with accessible and dog friendly rooms, and a new wellness area called The Coach House complete with a gym, treatment rooms, and four outdoor treatment pods.
For this opening, Wildhive is collaborating with Matt Hulme of Dynargh Design. The design draws on the surrounding landscape, pairing repurposed antiques with bespoke UK-made pieces that reflect the colours and textures of the local moors and National Park. With extensive experience across hotel projects nationwide, Matt’s approach will create a visual connection to the distinctive design of Wildhive Callow Hall while bringing a fresh spin to Eshott – with the aim of the hotels feeling like sisters, not twins. Artist Melissa White has been commissioned to create another mural depicting the local area in the private dining room, continuing the thoughtful links between the two properties.
The main house, which is set to undergo a full renovation, features 14 beautifully decorated rooms, many with freestanding bathtubs. The Grade II* listed building will be sensitively restored to preserve its architectural character and historic significance. It sits within stunning countryside, surrounded by acres of ancient woodland, rolling lawns and a walled kitchen garden that will supply the hotel’s charming restaurant – The Garden Room. Celebrating the very best of Northumberland's larder, Executive Chef David Bukowicki nods to the past through his menus – Eshott Hall and the surrounding estate were once at the epicentre of the local agricultural economy. Seasonal menus have been created to showcase local seafood, moorland-grazed meats, alongside fruits and vegetables from the hotel’s own garden. Wildhive will also collaborate with Derbyshire suppliers to bring regional produce to Eshott Hall, while sharing fresh Northumbrian ingredients with Callow Hall.
Wildhive Eshott Hall’s location between Alnwick and Morpeth makes it the perfect base from which to explore the surrounding countryside and coastline – including the beautiful Northumberland Coastal Path, the nearby Farne Islands with their abundant wildlife, and the spectacular castles of Bamburgh and Alnwick. It has been an exciting period for the destination in recent years, with North East England announced as the first ever Destination Development Partnership pilot in England, receiving £2.25 million in government funding to grow the visitor economy. Alongside this investment, the opening of Wildhive Eshott Hall will create a multitude of job opportunities in the area across all parts of the business.
In the spirit of the manor house’s former life, host to important local gatherings, establishing a partnership between Wildhive and the County Council played a key role in the project, in honour of the building’s history.
Ed Burrows D.L. Co-founder of the Wildhive Collection, commented: “We’ve loved working with Northumberland County Council to bring this long-imagined project to fruition. Their backing has allowed us to create a hotel that truly reflects Northumberland’s character – and hopefully encourages even more people to discover this extraordinary corner of England.”
Councillor Colin Horncastle, Cabinet Member for Planning with Northumberland County Council, said: "We’re delighted to welcome Wildhive to Northumberland at such a dynamic time for the county and are pleased to have been able to play our part in the process.
"Wildhive Eshott Hall opens as interest in Northumberland and all it has to offer continues to grow. We look forward to showcasing our wonderful landscape and with Wildhive, Eshott Hall’s heritage will be celebrated – and its future protected."
The Wildhive Collection was founded by Ed Burrows and Charles Randall, whose vision was to create a unique and characterful collection of houses with experiential accommodation dotted around lesser known parts of the UK. At the heart of the Wildhive philosophy is a commitment to locality and community, and a responsibility towards the planet and its people through sustainable and restorative practices.
