Lights, Camera, Opportunity: New Film Industry Events Bring Growth to Northumberland

Businesses across Northumberland are being invited to step into the spotlight and discover how they can play a role in the region’s growing film and television industry.

The North East Screen Supply Chain Events, delivered by Visit Northumberland and the Northumberland Small Business Service in partnership with North East Screen, will highlight the wide range of opportunities available for local suppliers as more productions choose the North East as their filming location.

The Northumberland Small Business Service (NSBS) is delivered by Northumberland County Council. The project is part funded by the North East Combined Authority and the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and the Rural England Prosperity Fund, with the North East Combined Authority as the lead authority.

Film and TV productions don’t just need cameras and costumes, they rely on everything from catering and construction to accommodation, accountancy, transport, cleaning, floristry, and much more. The events will shine a light on the vital role that local businesses can play in supporting on-screen success stories.

Taking place across venues in Northumberland, the events will connect businesses from every sector with industry experts, showcasing how productions source local goods and services.

Businesses are invited to attend the events on Wednesday 19th November at County Hall, Morpeth and Thursday 22nd January at the Tynedale Suite in Hexham.

Lucy Evermore, Programme Manager for NSBS said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for Northumberland businesses to discover new markets, grow their networks, and be part of an exciting and fast-growing industry. The screen sector in the North East is expanding, and we want to make sure local suppliers are at the heart of it.”

Holly Bray, Head of Marketing and Partnerships at Visit Northumberland said: "Film and television production brings huge benefits to our visitor economy, from showcasing Northumberland’s stunning landscapes on screen to creating real opportunities for local businesses. We’re delighted to be supporting this initiative and encourage businesses from all sectors to sign up and help connect our county’s suppliers with the growing screen industry."

The sessions will include industry insights, networking opportunities, and practical advice on how to register as a supplier and make the most of upcoming opportunities.

Businesses of all sizes and sectors are encouraged to attend.
