Award winning fine-dining Alnwick restaurant, Sonnet is hitting the top spot once again, this time scooping a prestigious Catey Award in the Newcomer category.
Sonnet are flying high in an incredibly short time, after being named in the Michelin Guide in January and given the inspectors’ choice accolade, and in March it was named the UK’s favourite by readers of Condé Nast Traveller, which announced the accolade at its Top New Restaurant Awards. The publication described it as “one of the friendliest, least pretentious, yet fabulously accomplished fine dining offerings to open in the last year”.
Opening in early 2024 this Alnwick restaurant with a unique concept created by Gary McDermott and Claudia Mazareanu, offers a wonderful food journey throughout the year, serving one menu using the finest ingredients currently in season or preserved from previous seasons.
Inspired by a poetic sonnet, their 14-course tasting menu focuses on the best quality ingredients they can source, with the emphasis being on simplicity.
The Catey's judging panel said:
“This pair took a big risk opening in a relatively quiet area with no passing trade. It’s impressive that they have already won recognition and made excellent profit.” Tom Shepherd
“This restaurant is sure to become an institution in the north of England. A clear winner.” Pascal Aussignac
“An exciting and ambitious restaurant with an innovative approach that is full of imagination and quality.” Richard Ball
Huge congratulations to Sonnet Restaurant for joining the hallowed hall of fame in this incredibly prestigious event.
